Baldmin clinches manufacturing deal in DRC

Harare- BALDMIN Projects has clinched a manufacturing deal in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as the company extends its footprint in the Southern and SADC regions.

Baldmin Projects, a division of Baldmin Holdings has been awarded two tenders to manufacture warehouses for Lulu KCC Mine, a division of Glencore group of mines worth over $1,2 million.

The supply of consumables for six months under the first phase of the project will be renewed for another 12 months

Besides DRC, Baldmin Projects is also doing gold processing plants (leach plants) worth over US$850,000 for Urumaya a Bulawayo based company’s which is part of LOC group of companies.

Manufacturing is underway and deliveries will resume soon.

Baldmin runs offices and workshops in South Africa , Zimbabwe and Lubumbashi DRC.

Baldmin Holdings founder and managing director Eng Costar Takawira Mangwende expressed delight at the growth of the company.
“we are delighted that the organisation is growing from strength to strength after facing challenges related to the Covid-19 pandemic which disrupted businesses all over the world.

“Our vision is to become the most preferred supplier of mining and engineering equipment, spares etc in the region. We want to grow our business locally and in SADC region as we seek to bring back the much needed foreign currency in the country hence creating more employment opportunities,” Eng Takawira said.

Some of our success stories dates back to the Metallon plants ,Unki plant Upgrades (Anglo) , resuscitation of Sabi Gold mine which operates as Chandiwana mines where Eng Takawira is a shareholder and one of the Directors of the mine, just to mention a few.

“We are getting a lot of enquiries from the DRC but our biggest challenge is funding and most banks are hesitant to offer projects funding even in South Africa but we are managing and working with our clients on how best to deliver the projects,” Eng Takawira said.

Baldmin is also a procurement house for the mining industry giving clients options that are tailor made to suit their budgets.

At its Benoni workshop Baldmin Projects refurbishes gear boxes, crushers, mills and mining equipment for those mines that can’t afford new equipment.

The refurbished equipment will be left in conditions as good as new and this comes with 6-12 months warranty.

“Baldmin saves small scale miners all the way to commercial mining and no one is too small or too big for us.

“Our engineers are also on standby to assist our clients after sales and always ready to help when required,” he added.

Baldmin, with some experience in the DRC market, is willing to work with some serious technical partners on projects in the pipeline.

Eng Costar believes the continent of Africa like Zimbabwe needs us to take an initiative to develop it.

“I am a firm believer of Zimbabwe and we as the citizens of the region can make it better by bringing back all the experience and knowledge we have gained abroad,” Eng Takawira said.

Besides projects, baldmin holdings is also funding a lot of sporting events in the country through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR ) prop and the Costar Takawira Foundation whose theme is “Educate the Girl Child and Empower the Nation” which sends athletes to the United States of America (USA) and pay fees locally for the needy .

“For it’s a calling and would want to see a healthy and educated young generation,” Eng Takawira said.
