Bakers Inn employees up in arms with employer over alleged labour law violations

Most of them refused to be 'baked alive' while they have served the company for more than a decade

Harare-BAKERS INN ,a subsidiary of Simbisa Brands is in the eye of a storm following resistance from employees who are accusing the baker of forcing them to go on ‘voluntary’ retrechment,Express Mail Zim can report.

The workers argue that the move is a violation of their labour rights.

Investigations by Express Mail Zim established that at least eight workers were retrenched in July 2024 and are embroiled in a salary dispute with the company that is facing stiff competition from Mr Chingwaa rival company.

“The employer is insisting in giving the workers only the outstanding salaries from July and August.

“The workers have refused to sign a letter from management insisting that they be given their outstanding allowances and perks over the years they have worked.

“Some have worked for over 10 ten years.

“The workers are also
accusing the employer of forcing them to sign for voluntary retrenchment packages, saying it is a way for getting rid of the old horses,”revealed our inside source.

The retrenchment exercise began in May and has been faced with voracious resistance from long serving employees who are refusing to be ‘ baked alive!

This move has seen a massive exodus of experienced workers who are going to greener pastures compromising the quality of bread at Bakers Inn.

Efforts to get a comment from the authoroties at the baker hit a snag.
