Ajay Singh: The no-nonsense prosecutor


Harare- HIGH  profile criminals and persons of interest who came before the courts in the early 2000s hated state prosecutor Ajay Singh.

Singh earned a reputation of being uncompromising and unwavering in the execution of his duties. Ajay Singh is a 47 year old Legal Practitioner duly registered with the High Court of Zimbabwe he served as a Law Officer in the Ministry of Justice, Legal & Parliamentary Affairs and was posted as a Public Prosecutor at the Harare Magistrate’s Court in the years 2006 and 2007.

During that period he spearheaded a number of high level prosecutions which earned him high profile enemies.

Singh would not barge and he did not accept bribes , or compromise on issues of the law. Singh perused justice without fear or favour, this was demonstrated by his prosecution of senior civil servants.

While he served as a prosecutor he prosecuted then DIRECTOR of social services in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Sydney Mhishi and won a conviction which resulted in the senior civil servant being fined $40 000 by a Harare court for negligent driving.

Land baron Eric Samunda who was the then Seke district administrator was prosecuted for allocating land to undeserving people.

The most notable prosecution by Singh was that of HIGH Court clerk Shadreck Jison who was accused of soliciting and receiving a $5 000 bribe from a litigant who desperately needed the urgent setting down of his matter.

Jison was employed by the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs based at the High Court as a judges’ clerk attached to Justice Joseph Musakwa.

Singh was a tough prosecutor who became a target of ruthless criminals who wanted to deter him from doing his job. The prosecutor was hounded by criminals and the guilty to a point where he lost electrical gadgets worth more thousands of dollars when thieves broke into his Greendale house.

Ajay Singh is a no nonsense prosecutor who has prosecuted high profile cases and has demonstrated that he is driven by the law and an upright character.
