About sixty thousand pregnant women in Gaza are lacking essential care and nutrition at the hands of the Israeli forces, ExpressMail has learnt.

In a statement, yesterday, Palestine Ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr. Tamer Almassri condemned the continued suffering of the Palestinians people where the pregnant women suffer most.
“Poor nutrition during pregnancy harms both the baby and the mother, increasing the risk of miscarriages, foetal deaths, compromised immune system development, growth impacts, and maternal mortality,” the statement read in part.
He also said that the sixty thousand women are suffering from malnutrition, dehydration and inadequate healthcare.
With the healthcare system already in a sorry state as Israel is continuing with the attacks on medical facilities, health workers and transport, this takes a to0ll on pregnant women.

Almassri pleaded that the international community should put pressure on Israel to stop the aggression and suffering of Palestinian people and allow humanitarian aid to reach all Gaza unhindered.
“Out of Gaza’s 36 hospitals, only 1 is partially operational as a result of the Israeli military’s repeated, apparently unlawful attacks on medical facilities, personnel, and transport, as well as the severe restrictions on the entry of fuel and other medical supplies,” continued the statement.

Almassri said using starvation as a war weapon is unacceptable and goes against the international law and suggested that a ceasefire will be best to curtail the continued loss of innocent lives.
He also called on the International Criminal Court to be quick on issuing the arrest warrants to the alleged Israeli perpetrators in the conflict.
“The International Criminal Court should quickly issue arrest warrants against the Israeli government officials perpetrating these war crimes against the Palestinians and bring them to international justice.

The UNSC should also implement the ceasefire resolution to halt the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza, and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem,” the statement continued.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six organs of the UN and is there to ensure international peace and security.
