YADAH Stars President Takes Legal Action to Halt ZIFA Polls

Prophet Walter Magaya, the president of YADAH Stars Football Club, has taken legal action to prevent the ZIFA elections scheduled for January 25, seeking intervention from the High Court.

The case will be heard at 9 a.m. today by High Court Judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi.

Magaya is among five presidential candidates disqualified by the ZIFA Electoral Committee for not meeting the association’s ethics and integrity criteria.

In addition to pursuing a court order in Zimbabwe, Magaya has also appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.

Disqualified candidates, including Benjani Mwaruwari and Gift Banda, have jointly filed an appeal with CAS.

Magaya’s lawyer, Everson Chatambudza, is representing him in seeking an interdict to block the elections from proceeding until the matter is resolved. The Electoral and Normalisation Committees, headed by Mutasa, have been named as respondents in the case.

The ZIFA Electoral Committee has acknowledged the receipt of the High Court notice regarding the application.

ZIFA has responded through external counsel, arguing that the matter should be addressed by CAS first, as the court is already handling the case.

This legal challenge has drawn attention from key stakeholders, including FIFA, CAF, and COSAFA, who are closely monitoring the developments.

The outcome of the hearing could have significant implications for the upcoming elections and the leadership of ZIFA.
