ZIFA’s New President to Receive US$50,000 Annual Bonus from CAF

The newly elected president of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) will receive an annual, tax-exempt bonus of US$50,000 from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as recognition for their leadership of the national football body. This amount translates to approximately US$4,166 per month.

ZIFA will elect a new president on January 25. In October 2024, CAF decided to increase the annual payment to national association presidents from US$20,000 to US$50,000. This decision was unanimously approved by all 54 member countries.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe commented that while the increase is substantial, the US$50,000 still remains relatively small. He highlighted that many association leaders often use their own funds to cover operational costs due to a lack of sufficient resources.

In addition to the president’s salary, CAF’s vice presidents and executive members will earn US$20,000 annually. Presidents of regional bodies such as COSAFA and CECAFA will receive US$25,000 each. Special advisers to Motsepe, Danny Jordaan and Jacques Anouma, will also be paid US$20,000 each.

While the heads of national football associations are not full-time staff but volunteers, CAF recognizes the need to compensate them for their dedication and time. For context, FIFA vice presidents and President Gianni Infantino earn significantly higher salaries, with the latter receiving approximately US$4.67 million annually.

Six candidates are competing for the ZIFA presidency: Philemon Machana, Martin Kweza, Nqobile Magwizi, Twine Phiri, Makwinji Soma-Phiri, and Marshall Gore. ZIFA is expected to announce the final list of candidates and voting council members soon.
