BULAWAYO-A prominent Bulawayo CCC activist Tholakele Mzimkulu is living in fear following her recent abitrary arrest and subsequent threats.
Tholakele was arrested on June 16 during a gathering to commemorate the Day of the African Child in Bulawayo.
She together with other fellow political activist spent months in custody untill they were acquitted on 4 September.
The visibly frail Tholakele spoke of the inhumane treatment she suffered during her detention.
“The conditions we were subjected to while we were detained are despicable.
“Imagine as female detainees we were not allowed sanitary wear during our monthly periods and often prison guards would pass offensive sexual inuendos to demean us.It was horrible,” she said.
The female activist said while she is now out there has been increased surveillance and threats from suspected state agents.
“Its sad that despite my freedom I still find myself being trailed by unregistered vehicles which are similar to those often used by CIO(Central Intelligence Office) operatives.
“I have also recieved unanimous calls threatening to deal with me accordingly.I am contemplating fleeing this country if this persists,”she added.
The Zanu PF regime has been using state security agents and quasi-military groups like FAZ to haunt percieved opposition activists.
Last year in November,CCC activist and councillor Womberai Nhende was abducted and kept in captivity for days.He claims he was injected with an unknown substance.
