Mafume vows to shrug off challenges towards attainment of ‘world class city’ by 2025

Harare – Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume last week glossed over some key infrastructure built in the past decade in the capital saying the city has made strides towards it’s agenda of a world class city by 2025,Express Mail Zim can report.

Mafume made the sentiments while giving a vote of thanks after President Emmerson Mnangagwa spoke at a local government association meeting in Harare where he listed the Robert Mugabe International Airport which was recently renovated saying it is a world class infrastructure.

‘Harare 1’ also listed the Parliament of Zimbabwe built by the Chinese as a world class building.

He also said Joina City, which is privately owned by a pension fund and Shingi Mutasa, is a world class building.

The Mayor also said the Mbudzi interchange being constructed by the government as world class and he was out of superlatives.

Harare city is faced by a myriad of challenges that include failure to collect refuse, sewer bursts and water shortages.

The city in the past decade had planned to become a world class city by 2025 but the opposition led city council has failed to improve on service delivery resulting in government helping in collecting refuse.

Corruption has also been affecting the city with council top management accused of pilfering council resources.

Mafume has worked flat out to flush out the instituinalised corruption bedevilling Harare .

President Mnangagwa appointed a commission of inquiry to investigate the affairs of the city.

The commission of inquiry which is chaired by Retired Justice Maphios Cheda is expected to complete it’s work in February 2025 and present a report to Mnangagwa.

To date, a lot of corruption issues have been revealed at the commission with characters frequently featuring including Marara,Edgar Dzehonye among other main actors alleged to be bishops of vice .
