ZBCA President calls for adoption of the Construction Industry Bill

It is important to note that great strides have been made in the enactment of the Construction Industry Bill. ZBCA is actively involved in the legal processes surrounding this critical legislation, however we have not been lucky and it has been a mammoth task to have this bill passed into an act of parliament. “The adoption of this bill is essential for effective regulation of our industry, prioritizing the empowerment of local contractors,”said Dr Manzungu.

The Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association(ZBCA)president Dr Tinashe Manzungu has called for the adoption of the Construction Industry Bill to help spur the construction industry in Zimbabwe.
He was speaking at ZBCA regional summit in Victoria Falls on Thursday.
“It is important to note that great strides have been made in the enactment of the Construction Industry Bill.
The ZBCA boss highlighted some of the biggest achievement his organisation has done in the past few years.

In recent years, we have made remarkable strides in the construction sector. Since 2018, over 7,000 projects have been implemented, and more than 5,000 have been officially commissioned.
“Significant improvements have also been made in our road infrastructure with over 33,000 kilometres completed road network. This achievement is particularly important as we aim to complete ongoing projects that continue to bolster our national infrastructure,”he added.
According to Dr Manzungu,ZBCA is next year ‘expecting investment to the tune of at-least usd$100 Million worth of projects’ being done by its members.
He also reiterated the need for regional cooperation.
“We must also strengthen regional integration and cooperation. By harmonizing our policies and regulations, we can attract more investment and promote sustainable economic growth. Together, we can create a seamless environment for the execution of infrastructure projects, facilitating an easier pathway for local contractors to engage in both government and private initiatives.
“This has led ZBCA to collaborate with sister organisations like Master Builders South Africa and Zambia National Association, amongst other SADC countries that we are finalising with,”said Dr Manzungu.
