City dealer in US$120k fraud rap
Harare- A popular Harare dealer Marko Gaka who goes by the alias Lot Gaka, has been arraigned in court for his alleged role in a US$120 000 fraud scheme,Express Mail Zim can report.
The metrosexual smooth dealer is accused of teaming up with Gamuchirai Grant Machakaire to deceive Zakir H Motola Investments, a company that exports biscuits and cornflakes from Zambia to Zimbabwe.
The State led by Anesu Chirenje alleged that Gaka and Machakaire approached Zakir H Motola Investments, claiming they had clients interested in buying their products.
Zakir H Motola Investments (Pvt) Ltd was represented by Ibrahim Kabwe Mwamba, one of the company’s directors.
The State’s case is that the company entrusted the duo with three truckloads of biscuits and cornflakes worth US$120 000, with the understanding that payment would be made good upon delivery.
However, after receiving payments from clients, the duo failed to remit funds back to the company.
To conceal their actions, Gaka and Machakaire sent a fraudulent proof of payment to Zakir H Motola Investments under the name Mickokays (Pvt) Ltd.
This prompted a police report, revealing a total loss of US$120 000, with only US$39 000 recovered.
Gaka appeared before Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, charged with theft of trust property.
He was granted US$500 bail and is scheduled to return to court on January 28, 2025.
Machakaire is already on remand and appeared in court last month.
