Bill Gates Steps Into Political Arena with $50 Million Donation to Harris Campaign
New York: MICROSOFT co-founder Bill Gates has reportedly donated $50 million to Kamala Harris’s campaign, marking a departure from his typically apolitical stance.
Although the donation was intended to be private, Gates later confirmed his support to the New York Times, without formally endorsing the vice president.
In a statement, Gates emphasized his commitment to candidates who prioritize healthcare, poverty reduction, and climate change both in the U.S. and globally.
He noted:
“This election is different, with unprecedented significance for Americans and the most vulnerable people around the world.”
With a net worth of approximately $105 billion, Gates is currently ranked as the thirteenth richest person in the world. Despite his wealth, he has expressed a desire to avoid being labeled as a “political influencer.”

This donation follows Gates’s concerns about a potential second term for Donald Trump, which he has shared in private conversations with friends, though he has also stated a willingness to collaborate with any candidate.
Gates has previously praised the Biden-Harris administration for its efforts in tackling climate change. His philanthropic organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is particularly worried about potential cuts to family planning and global health programs if Trump were to be reelected, according to sources close to the foundation.
Gates has historically aimed to maintain a nonpartisan approach to preserve his credibility with both Democratic and Republican audiences, especially in relation to international development work.
