‘Gidisa’,not Gidiza:Warriors legend clears the air on nickname
FORMER Warriors midfielder, Ronald Sibanda has corrected a long standing mistake with his nickname, Gidiza.
Speaking on Star FM, the highly rated player who is regarded as one of the best to have ever played the game in Zimbabwe, said his actual nickname had been Gidisa (isiNdebele) in reference to how he made his opponents dance.
Sibanda said he did not mind the name Gidiza, which is now in common use across the country.
“I want to correct something which however has been going on for many years,” he said.
“People know me as Gidiza, which is wrong, it ought to be Gidisa because I was a dribbling menace, ngangireyitsha umuntu kuzekukhanye angani uyagida (I use to dribble my opponents up till it seemed like they were dancing), hence Gidisa, not Gidiza.
“I think it’s Mabika who got it wrong somehow but I can’t blame him”
