Cheeky ‘Ama2000’ boy hits USD3k in SADC fraud storm

The juvenile's age range is popularly reffered to as "ama2000' and has caused menace in fraud cases and matters of the amorous realm.

Harare-A cheeky 17-year-old teenage boy (popularly reffered to as Ama2000 in street lingua) from Zimre Park, Ruwa, was this week arraigned before the Harare Magistrates Court for defrauding fellow high school students.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, sometime in July 2024, the juvenile masqueraded as a member of the Junior Parliament, promising students a chance to join the Junior Motivators SADC Parliament program.

He charged them $62 for registration and uniforms and $50 for a camping trip to Domboshava Resort.

After receiving payments, he disappeared into thin air.

The total amount involved was $2,640 and nothing was recovered.

“The accused person was released into the custody of his guardian. The matter was remanded to 5 September 2024,,” read tye NPA statement.
