Skipper succumbs to liver cancer Sunday in his hometown of Gweru

Gweru- FORMER Caps United captain Tapiwa Khumbulani has died.

He was aged 41 and he succumbed to liver cancer in his hometown of Gweru on Sunday, two weeks after an image of him relaxing at his house went viral on social media amid backlash on the source.

He is survived with two children.

He had an illustrious career which saw him play for Chapungu,Monomotapa
and How Mine.

Condolence messages continue to pour on social media and one his close friends and former teamate Maxwel ‘Marhino’ Dube posted a heartfelt message on Facebook Sunday announcing the death:

“It’s with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of another football icon, Tapiwa Kumbuyani. “Tapiwa, known for his remarkable contributions to Chapungu, Masvingo, Monomotapa, Bantu Rover, and Caps Utd, was not just a player but my dear friend, my roommate, and my fellow churchmate.

“Tapiwa’s journey was marked by courage and resilience, even in the face of adversity. Despite battling liver cancer, he remained optimistic, and just last Wednesday, he spoke of his improving health on the video call we had. Sadly, he departed from us this afternoon(Sunday), leaving behind memories that will forever resonate within our football community,” he wrote.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
