Masiyiwa’s ‘take-over’ that never was: Supersport not for sale

Pretoria- South African Premier Soccer League side Supersport have dismissed reports that the club was up for sale, Express Mail Zim can report.
This follows widespread reports Tuesday that Zimbabwean billionaire and telecoms mogul Strive Masiyiwa was on the verge of taking over the club which is said to be struggling financially.
Supersport management sent a communique to players and staff Wednesday assuring them that the club was not for sale in a move that is likely designed to calm down the camp and allay fears of possible job losses.
A consorsotium from Wits was also linked to the possible take-over that the club dismissed.
“Good afternoon players and staff… SuperSport United has been made aware of the old repeated rumours and speculation regarding the potential sale of the club,” partly read statement.
It is however clear in the statement that it is not the first time that the club has perrenially rumoured to be ‘up for sale’.
The statement further reads :

“Please note that these rumours are completely untrue. As stated when these false rumours started in 2019, the club is not for sale.

“The club is seeking legal advise on the publications or persons involved in continually issuing these false statements.”
The club chief executive Stan Matthews has vehemently refuted possibility of sale since 2019.

Meanwhile,Express Mail Zim understands that Supersport have called for a press briefing Thursday at 10am.
