Oral Cholera Vaccine for Kuwadzana Residents

Harare:On Monday, 29th January 2024, the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO,) the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), kicked off the oral cholera vaccine (OCV) campaign in Kuwadzana.

Kuwadzana is a cholera hotspot with some of the boreholes reported to be contaminated with fecal matter. The single oral vaccine is taken as a single dose. It offers protection for three years. Residents are still urged to boil drinking water, wash hands under running water, and observe hygiene. Only hotspots will get the OCV.
