Zim govt chips in to donate USD35k in a show of real camaraderie

Harare- THE Embassy of the State of Palestine in Zimbabwe is living on a shoe- string budget with a fatigue of cash flow and subsequent challenges in operational costs ,Express Mail Zim can reveal.

The ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip has blocked movement of funds and this reporter understands that staffers at the embassy were last paid as far back as October last year.

This development incapacitated the embassy to support its operations in the country.

“It is an open secret that the operations of the embassy are on autopilot.

“Basic needs are scarce and its a sad situation,” said a friend in solidarity with th the Palenstines in Zimbabwe who spoke on condition of anonymity.

She further revealed that the monthly budget to sustain operational costs at the embassy run to the tune of USD65 000 but last month it was halfed.

Cementing the brotherhood between the two nations a fortnight ago, Zimbabwe government donated USD35 000 to complement a fund sent to the State of Palestine through the United Nations to help Palestinians in this perrenial crisis.

In over 80 days, Israel’s war against Palestinians has claimed nearly 30 000 people as of yesterday, with the bulk of those killed being civilians, including over 11 000 children, nearly 6 00 women, about 500 health personnel and 101 journalists.

Over 56 000 Palestinians have been injured with hundreds of them in a critical condition, said Euro-Med Monitor. Yesterday, about 20 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli air attack on a residential building in Rafah, as Israel continues to defy the voices of the progressive world to immediately and unconditionally stop the genocide in Gaza.

Foreign Affairs minister Fredrick Shava applauded the kind of camaraderie that has continued to subsist between the two countries.

Zimbabwe has benefitted from technical assistance from the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Palestine International Cooperation Agency through provision of agricultural expertise, the training programmes, water security and health services, among others.

The strong relations between the Zimbabwe has stood the attempted distractin through the machinations of detractors who wish the two countries to fail.

Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri is on record championing the symbiotic relationship between the two countries.
