Zambian authorities seize pvt jet carrying with US$11 million cash, gold
Lusaka-HOT on the heels of illicit gold smuggling racket in Southern African implicating prominent Zimbabwean businesspeople,Zambian authorities have Tuesday seized private jet carrying gold and US$11 million in cash.
THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) conducted an operation at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and seized a private jet that was scheduled to leave the country with at least US$11 million in cash, weapons and some suspected gold.
Zambia Drug Enforcement Commission Director General Nason Banda confirmed that there was an ongoing operation involving a private jet at the airport, but declined to give details, saying it would be dangerous for him to pre-empty the investigation, yet promising to update the nation today.
“I am yet to get the full details from the officers on the ground, so I can’t make a statement at this stage. What I can tell you is that it’s true, there is that operation is ongoing.
Information reaching Express Mail Zim from our Lusaka based associates links the ownership of the private jet to some Egyptian tycoon with strong links with a white Zimbabwean dodgy businessman who fled the country in the late early 2000s.
We are told the same businessman is alsointo grain smuggling from Zimbabwe working in cahoots with a former Mash West champion farmer (name supplied) who relocated to Zambia during the land reform and later resettled in New Zealand.
Meanwhile,reports are that some sections of Zambians are calling for president
Hachilema’s ouster.
