Bona Mugabe divorce: Chikore accused of bigamy

Harare- THE messy divorce saga between the late former president Robert Mugabe’s son-in-law Simbarashe Mutsahuni Chikore and estranged wife Bona Nyepudzai Ouma has taken a new twist with revelations that Chikore is in deep trouble after it emerged married Bona while his marriage to Margaret Jeanine Brooks in the United States subsisted.

This development is tantamount to bigamy and it emerged that Chikore married Brooks in St. Louis County, Missouri, US, on 9 October 2000, while he tied the knot to Bona on March 31 2014.

However, Chikore only formally divorced Brooks and obtained a dissolution of their marriage on April 23 2014 – one month and 23 days after marrying Bona in a calculated move to mask his alleged con.

“This makes his civil marriage to Bona invalid given that bigamy is a criminal offence in Zimbabwe,” said a legal expert.

Bigamy is a criminal offence committed when either partner attempts to marry another partner while still married to each other.

According to the law of the land , it is punishable by arrest, a sentence of up to 6 months in jail as well as a level 5 fine.

His claim of property in their estate might be rendered a nullity and he might walk away empty handed barely a month after he revealed massive wealth he claimed was acquired during the couple’s nine year long marriage.

The couple has three children.
