Zimra suspends key managers over corruption allegations

Harare- SCANDAL ridden Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) has suspended two senior managers amid allegations of corrupt activities prejudicing the taxman of hundreds of thousands of dollars,Express Mail Zim can report.

The two suspected culprits were suspended last week and these are , Loss control manager Tendai Manyika and Technical Services manager Smart Ncube.

Investigations made by this publication established that the duo were implicated by their surbodinates stationed at Beitbridge Border Post after a trap had been set up by Police border control unit resulting in the juniors spilling the beans

“The two bosses were implicated by their juniors who were caught tampering with seals on trucks paving way for smuggling of fuel and other commodities.

“The juniors were caught after suspicion was raised over the young employees’ lifestyle and when they were fired they implicated the two bosses claiming that they were mere pawns in a bigger game of chess,” revealed our inside source who preffered anonymity.

” The two have amassed a lot wealth bleeding Zimra and abusing taxpayers money,” added the source .

Ncube could not be reached for comment while Manyika confirmed the development but submitted that he was not allowed to comment on the issue to avoid violation of company policy.

“I am not allowed to comment on the issue. “Contact Zimra corporate communications for further discussions,” he said.

Both the communications manager Francis Chimanda and Commissioner General Regina Chinamasa were not immediately available for comment at the time of writing Thursday.

This development comes barely a week after Zimra and Allied Workers Trade Union petitioned their employer demanding three-day working slots per week arguing that their salaries have been eroded and hence they cannot report for work daily.

A letter by Zimratu president, Dominic Manyangadze to Zimra Commissioner-General and also copied to the board chairperson Antony Mandiwanza details the hardships at the taxman’s institution.

Over the years, the revenue collector was known as an employer of choice due to hefty salaries but Manyangadze said exchange rate movements have left workers unable to report for duty daily.
