Golden Leaf realises US$2.7 million in first week

Harare- The first week of the tobacco marketing season realised at least US$2.7 million, Express Mail Zim has learnt.

According to TIMB 400 000 kilogrammes were sold at an average price of US2.60 while the highest price was US$6.50.

The positive start is in tandem with government ‘s agriculture transformation agenda as the country targets the attainment of an US$8 billion agriculture industry.

Farmers were elated with the prices with contracted farmers expressing satisfaction.

“I am happy with the pricing and I thank government for intervening in the fair pricing ,” said Jameson Nyajinha, a tobacco farmer.

TIMB was very strict this marketing season and some notorious indigenous companies like Voedsle bring under the microscope for not paying farmers.

Farmers besieged the company’s offices in Glen Lorne demonstrating against the neglect.
