National hero Mushohwe laid to rest

Harare- THE late national hero Chris Mushohwe has been laid to rest Thursday at the National Heroes Acre,Express Mail Zim can report.

The fallen scholar served in different portfolios in government as Director of State Residencies, governor and resident minister of Manicaland province and also Information and Transport minister.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa described the late hero as a scholar of repute whose passion for education was infectious to the upliftment of the underprivileged and nation at large.

“Dr Mushowe’s proximity to the visionary of our post independence education literacy revolution, inspired him to improve his own education and that of many others, particularly the under-privileged in our societies. The drive to improve himself saw the late National Hero using his spare time to study through distance education until he attained two doctoral degrees. This was an extraordinary feat in view of the demanding nature of his position. His passion for education for the under-privileged saw him appointed to lead the Scholarships Department,” said Mnangagwa.

Glowing eulogies were delivered and the same strong passion for education attribute resonated.

Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said:

“He was a dedicated civil servant and in all his portfolios,he led with distinction.”

One of his close confidantes and former Manicaland resident minister Mike Madiro said revisited how they cut their teeth in the political sphere in Manicaland.

Mushohwe is survived by his wife Penelope Batsirai,eight children and six grandchildren.
