Winky D album hitting home
Top contemporary Zimbabwean artiste Winky D has released his album Eureka – Eureka already unsettling and politically interpreted by a divided audience.
The album launch, widely professed as successful, took place on the Eve of the 2023 new year in Harare at the Rainbow Towers hotel and the songs have been released one by one much to the anxiety of keen fans.
Of the songs hitting home, one titled Dzimba-Dzemahwe released on January 02 this year featuring talented Shingirai clearly outlines the struggles being faced by Zimbabwean youths in the midst of greedy elites.
Part of the lyrics say:
“Night and day my heart is bleeding, when I look at the poor and needy, everything gone to the greedy, we need a national healing.
What kind of legacy are we to leave to the coming generation?
Is this the land we cry for, we die for, musadaro!
Zimbabwe, Dzimba-Dzemabwe!”
The album is not going down well for Zanu Pf social media enablers who align Winky D with opposition party Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) despite the songs containing none direct political connotations.
Neither has the artiste himself come out and attest his political affiliation nor his musical archrival Jah Prayzah has clearly pledged his allegiance to a political party despite being drawn as a Zanu PF stalwart.
Winky D’s previous albums Gombwe and Njema have not been spared from political interpretation as lyrics contained in it divided opinion among music audiences as well as political affiliates.
Nutty O, Killer T, Tocky Vibes, Holy Ten, Saintfloew, Herman, Enzo Ishal and unknown budding talent, Shingai, are some of the artists who feature on the collaboration-laden Eureka.
According to Winky D, ‘Eureka Eureka’ is fighting to dismantle intolerance, encouraging society to embrace divergent views as witnessed by the calibre of his collaborations.
