Biti assault case: Legislator in futile attempt to gag complainant from making Press responses

Harare- LEGISLATOR Tendai Biti has once again employed tactics to have his assault case move at a snail pace through making submissions divorced from the matter at hand.

The former finance minister is accused of verbally assaulting an investor Tatiana Aleshina at the Harare magistrates court in 2020.

Aleshina is a property developer and is part of Augur Investments .

When he appeared in court Tuesday, Biti queried on why Aleshina quashed his previous submissions via a press statement that was published in both online and traditional media platforms.

He was making reference to a statement authored by former Augur Investments manager Michael Van Blerk pouring cold water on submissions in court alleging that the company was illegally parceled out large tracts of land by the City Fathers.

Deputy prosecutor general Michael Reza however rubbished his complaint arguing that it is immaterial and unrelated to the assault case.

“These issues on the statement are being done in other court cases. There is no name of Tatiana Aleshina. The statement is written by Michael Van Blerk and not the complainant,” Reza said.

Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti- Guwuriro postponed the matter to November 18 for continuation of the application for referral to the ConCourt.
