Harare- BARELY a week after the anti-sanctions commemorations, a young female karateka has expressed her wish to be the First Lady Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa’s bodyguard.
The 12-year-old Rumbidzai Michelle Makamache told Express Mail Zim that she chose karate for self defence and to defend the country.
“I took up karate at Coughlan primary school after consulting my grandmother and dad who agreed .
” My dad is a taekwondo disciple and he inspired me and supports me.
“At Baines Junior I also played karate because karate is about self-defence and it teaches respect
“I want to perfect my skill and wish to be the First Lady’s protector,” she said.
Nicknamed Whitestone, Makamache has flew the country’s flag high conquering emphatic victories in South Africa.
She is a holder of multiple medals and she is basking in the glory of her latest victory in South Africa last month.
She finished third in her brown belt event at the Budo Karate International tournament.
The proud young karateka now has a black belt and dreams of opening her dojo for the girl child.
“I would like to open my dojo for the girl child because boys think girls cannot fight so I want to do away with that,” she said.
The 12-year-old is part of a club that is known as Karatenomichi and will be part of the karatekas that will be participating at the Kurai Open Championship.
Her family has been solely funding her journey and called for the corporate world to chip in.
Over the weekend, she got a *Silver medal* in the Kumite (Fighting) event.
Her club *Karate Nomichi, won 19 medals* (7 gold, 5 silver and 7 Bronze medals) in the 2022 Korfukan Karate tournament at Alexandra sports club in Harare.
