Mash East MPs fret over ‘investors’ invasion

Marondera-  SITTING Zanu PF legislators in Mashonaland East Province have their political lives hanging on the thread following an invasion by wealthy Harare based businessmen who masquerade as ‘investors’ yet pushing their political aspirations.

The so called ‘investors’ are masking their campaign through initiating projects in constituencies ahead of 2023 elections before a directive by the authorities.

The aspiring candidates are reportedly being pushed by some bigwigs and introduced as ‘local investors ‘ while angling themselves for political positions.

This has resulted in clashes and infighting as sitting MPs are aware of the clandestine moves.

The aspiring candidates are drilling boreholes, sponsoring soccer tournaments, donating farm inputs and dishing out party regalia among other things.

Legislators who spoke to Express Mail Zim said the emergence of aspiring candidates disguised as local investors has paralysed their operations.

“It is high time for party leaders o put an end to these early campaigns. We are having aspiring candidates campaigning and they are disguised as investors. We cannot have investors who donate things like soccer balls and other things.

“This is happening in selected constituencies.

“The leadership is aware and doing nothing to stop it. This is affecting the smooth operation of things in the constituencies,” said a legislator who preferred anonymity.
Zanu PF is expected to hold primary elections in a few months ahead of the 2023 elections.

Mashonaland East provincial secretary for administration Felix Mhona was quoted during a PCC meeting bemoaning the influx of Zanu PF officials from Harare applying for transfers to the province.

The majority of these individuals have failed to win in urban constituencies hence eying the rural areas where Zanu PF commands a stronghold.
