ZUPCO increases fares

Harare- COMMUTERS using ZUPCO buses will have to cough out a bit more after the company has increased fares effective Thursday.

According to a statement issued Wednesday, the revised fare structure will see commuters paying ZWL$400 instead of the previous ZWL$220 for trips up to 20 km in length. They will now pay ZWL$550 for trips between 21 and 30 kilometers.

From the current ZWL$260, this represents an increase of ZWL$290.

Short distances up to 20 km will cost USD0.75 (75 cents) for those paying in USD.

The fee for trips that are between 21 and 30 kilometers long is $1.00.
Transport woes have worsened after police swooped on mushika shika.

This clampdown has however resulted in several deaths and injuries caused by the cat and mouse chases between police and mushika shika drivers.
