Minister applauds church on educational investments

Kadoma- Government continues to applaud the church for its philanthropic role on investing in the development of educational infrastructure, thereby complementing each other’s efforts.

The remarks were made by Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Torerayi Moyo at the official handover-take-over ceremony of Kuredza Government Technical Primary School’s 4 modern new blocks, courtesy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kadoma recently.

At the same event, the school was conferred with the title of Technical Primary School. It was also handed Mashonaland West Provincial Best Overall Award in recognition of outstanding performance in commercial ventures in the primary schools category.

These new blocks unveiled are replete with state of the art facilities.
They are for use by learners in their day to day learning activities. They comprise of an ECD Block with three classrooms and ablution facilities, a Visual Performance Arts facility, a Wood Technology structure and one established for Home Technology all under the Heritage Based Curriculum (HBC).

According to church authorities attending the handover ceremony, the work gobbled US$200 000 in total.
Hailing the church for complementing Government efforts in the provision of access to education, Hon. Moyo said,
“I would like to extend the Ministry of Education’s gratitude to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for their sterling and philanthropic deed in complementing Government efforts in the provision of access to education through the construction of an ECD Classroom Block with ablution facilities and the other three dedicated blocks for VPA, Wood and Home Technology.

“Churches have been instrumental in education since time immemorial. I’m glad that up to this time they are still instrumental and today we have this testimony..
Commenting on the SDC refurbishment of another block still underway, he said: “I would like to commend the staff and SDC for embracing the skills narrative in our HBC and refurbishing ordinary classrooms into specialist rooms.”

The Hon. Minister reminded the gathering that investment in education is something not in vain but, “it is an investment in the future as it is a vehicle through which respective societies pass on their culture, values and norms.”
He acknowledged and commended the school community for its cordial rapport with the church resulting in these mammoth construction works.

The Minister went on to confer the title of Provincial Technical Primary School to the educational institution on the backdrop of it “leading the way in the provision of vocational and technical education at primary school level.” Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Hon. Marian Chombo represented by chief director Olicah Kaira, provincial education director Gabriel Mhuma, Sanyati DDC, Amigo Mhlanga, district schools inspector, Joseph Majasi, city mayor Nigel Ruzario and church president, Wellington Mbira attended the historic ceremony among many other high level dignitaries.

Meanwhile, Kuredza Government Primary School is celebrating its 60th Anniversary under the theme ‘Sixty Years of Taking Pride in Our Heritage while Laying Foundations for the Future’.
